Priorities for Grant Allocation

  • The Fund offers research grants to support projects which deepen our understanding of humanism in healthcare and health professions education. The focus is on research designs in which human relationships, empathy, compassion and respect play a significant role in treatment plans and educational interventions.

  • The Fund supports opportunities for researchers, educators and advocates to convene, network and discuss new ideas and the growing body of evidence demonstrating the role of humanistic practices in healthcare. A desired outcome of these gatherings is the development of diverse professional relationships and ultimately, new research studies.

Special Focus: Acknowledging the current Opioid Use Disorder (OUD) epidemic and evidence of the rising numbers of deaths due to drug overdose, the Fund directs a  significant portion of its leadership efforts and financial support to research which investigates the role of relationship centered care in achieving treatment plan adherence.
